General description |
Facilitate the incorporation of established research talent, of recognized international prestige, who have recently developed a significant period of their professional activity abroad; in such a way that it promotes the advancement towards a more competitive Spanish System of Science, Technology, and Innovation (SECTI) at both national and international levels. Encourage the circulation of knowledge and excellent research personnel, incorporating them stably into the SECTI, supporting their careers, and stimulating the generation and consolidation of top-level research teams. In order to incentivize the participation of scientific personnel from research entities located in the territory of the United States of America, one of the main powers in the field of research worldwide, the maximum amount of aid they can apply for is increased for this group. |
Specific goals and activities financed |
The actions that facilitate the stable incorporation of established research talent into the Spanish System of Science, Technology, and Innovation will be eligible for aid. An established researcher of recognized international prestige is considered to be someone who meets criteria such as being within the top 10% of researchers in their area of specialization globally, being the principal investigator of an active project of the European Research Council (ERC), holding the highest level of the academic/research career in their country of origin, or having led a significant number of research projects in competitive calls, whether national from any country or international, having made highly relevant and impactful contributions in their area of specialization throughout their career. The fundable activities included in the actions, to be carried out mandatorily, are: a) The execution of a proprietary R&D&I project led by the principal investigator (PI) of the action. b) The hiring of the PI of the action. Additionally, the following activity will be fundable, although it is not mandatory in the execution of the actions: c) The adaptation of spaces, renovation of laboratories, and similar, necessary for the initiation or consolidation of the PI's line of research. The actions that are funded may receive up to €1,000,000, which includes both direct and indirect costs. Indirect costs will be determined as a fixed percentage of 25% over the direct costs related to the execution of the project and the establishment and/or improvement of facilities. This amount may be increased up to €1,200,000 if the proposed principal investigators by the beneficiary entities have been linked to research organizations located in the territory of the United States of America for at least 5 years, in the period between January 1, 2019, and the start date of the application submission period. |
